In last Thursday’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Craig Schneider wrote that the Libertarian Party has failed to take advantage of the growing frustration voters feel with Republican and Democratic leadership. He holds an unfavorable image of Libertarians as anarchists or hedonists, bent on abolishing the rule of law. The reality is that Libertarians have thus far failed to clarify who we are, at least from the point of view of the broader electorate. I consider correcting this error to be critical to my campaign.

On the campaign trail, I meet all sorts of people. I’ve traveled the state speaking to voters, listening to their concerns and describing to them what a Libertarian government could mean to them.

Socialism is built on a lie. The lie is that humans are entitled to take from their neighbors what they can’t buy for themselves. Humans have certain rights – legitimate rights – to free assembly, free speech, life, liberty. We have NO right to anything that costs money, that we can’t or won’t buy for ourselves. We may or may not be granted charity by our neighbors, but we do NOT have the right to force it from them.

I recently got a great letter from a Republican friend of mine, Mike Smith. He graciously agreed to let me post it here:

Tuesday night I participated in the Voters’ Education Forum, graciously hosted by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. My fellow candidates spoke with one voice in bemoaning the failure of government to solve our problems – or to be exact, the failure of the current slate of incumbents to solve our problems. They claimed that all Georgia needs is a different group of faces in office, and all will be well. Really?

It is time to stand up and vote for Liberty and a morality that includes the free market and the Great GA Constitution as it was written.

The 5 separations~

 of state and the economy,

 the state and religion,

 the state and education,

the state and science.

and the state and health care!

If those 5 things are important to run as efficient as possible, keep their (bureaucrats) hands off them!
