Here is a quick philosophy introduction:

Metaphysics- (reality) What is real, what is truth?

Epistemology- (Knowing)By what means to we know what is real or how to discover truth?  Reason?  Faith?  Intuition?

Ethics- A system that supports a supreme value, either a God,  a Society, a whim or something objective like a human life, a tree, a whale a planet.

Politics- By what system should we relate with each other.  Socialism, Capitalism, Fascism?

Aesthetics- What is beauty, what is art? Why is something appealing?

Start with metaphysics and work you way down to develop your own personal philosophy.

~Here are some basic options under Metaphysics.  Everything is real (Aristotle)  Nothing is real, its just an illusion (Plato)  Man lives in a real world, but there is also a supernatural (above nature) world that is completely unknowable (Thomas Aquinas)   The natural and supernatural are blended,  the supernatural world is only knowable through revelation by a profit.  This is the supernatural world, when we die we enter the real world.  Etc…

~But to come to conclusion about this, you must first decide which system of knowing things is valid.  Faith = don't trust your senses, for they lie to you.  Or Reason = use your 5 senses for they can give you valuable information that you can decipher for yourself through logic, reasoning, deductive and inductive methods…

Induction is usually described as moving from the specific to the general, while deduction begins with the general and ends with the specific; arguments based on experience or observation are best expressed inductively, while arguments based on laws, rules, or other widely accepted principles are best expressed deductively.

Or a blend of faith and reason, that you must be able to know where the line is, in order to determine your reality.  How would you know where that line is?  You wouldn't.

~In order for you to have a moral system for living you need to determine what your highest value is, and what supreme value you share with your fellow man.  This produces a moral system in which we can live by.

Which is Ethics and Politics.

~What is the difference between good art and bad art?  Is it all good?  Why?  Should art support our values, or tear them down?

All these must tie in with each other in order to live an honest life.  Otherwise we are conflicted.  This is the nature of internal conflict (epistemology). Thus the nature of why we allow ourselves the kind of relationships (politics) that equal our own view of reality (an optimist or a pessimist, a slave or free human ). As conflicted as it may be. So becomes your view of reality (metaphysics).
